Samsung says that Glasses-free 3D TVs still some way off

There has been a recent buzz of speculation that 3D TVs that don’t require the wearing of special glasses may be appearing on the market sooner than previously thought.  But Samsung and Panasonic have been quick to dampen down the rumours that began with word that Toshiba might be producing a glasses-free 3D TV as early as the end of this year.  According to both Samsung and Panasonic, the technology required is still far too costly and unimpressive to present to the public.  Consumers might express annoyance at the idea of having to wear expensive glasses to watch tv, but glasses-free or ‘autostereoscopic’ 3D tvs would currently cost thousands of dollars more and come with not only a lower resolution but with the requirement that you would virtually have to sit motionless in order not to lose the 3D effect.
